My Role

As the lead designer on the Documents team, I led a four-month Documents product overhaul that consisted of a redesign and introducing a new work stream.

I also drove prioritization in the Q4 roadmap and resolved cross-functional challenges to ensure a successful launch.

Problem & Business Impact

Admins historically use Lattice’s HRIS Documents to manage critical employee documents (ex: Form I-9s or company handbooks).

Due to de-prioritization since 2022, Documents was left misaligned with the rest of Lattice’s ecosystem and missing work streams like multiple signature creation (necessary for offer or promotion letters) — pushing users toward external solutions to answer their needs.

As Lattice continues to streamline and unify HR operations, we are committed to delivering a fully functional, seamlessly integrated experience that empowers every HR work stream,

offering a level of cohesion and efficiency that standalone tools simply can't match.

The solution

The revamped Documents experience enhances usability, expands customization, and introduces key features like multi-signature functionality and AI-driven insights. These improvements not only bring the solution to parity with competitors like DocuSign but also make it more competitive by offering a fully integrated experience within the Lattice ecosystem—something standalone tools can't match.

This project consisted of several layers of impact

Diving into exploring the new work stream we needed to build

I discussed ideal workflows with People teams about what’s needed for a multi signature experience.

I realized very quickly that we needed to address several issues around the foundational surface of our Documents product.

Some issues included:

  • Documents outdated with our Design System

  • Sharing experience not being robust enough

  • AI integration capabilities had a lot of hidden repercussions

To get buy-in to work on these foundational surfaces first, I:

  • Grounded insights on customer feedback with Product Manager conversations

  • Grounded improvement pushes to improve Engineering infrastructure with Engineering team

I was able to get stakeholder buy in to pivot directions and focus on redesigning our foundation experience before moving into building new work streams.

As the redesign project was in development, I actively participated in QA and dived back into understanding our multi-signature work stream.

Since our pivot pushed our new work stream launch by a month out, I led design share-outs with leadership to communicate timeline updates, development phasing plans, and critical jobs to be done we were focusing on for MVP.

Outcome

Impact

Since launch, people expressed loving the updated streamlined process and increased efficiency in document management.

The addition of multi-signature functionality unlocked new workflows, allowing users to create a wider range of document types—such as offer letters—directly within Lattice.
